Selections : Day 1 – Tiles-Di Lorenzo

I was a overload of some really helpful information from the forums (forum.homeone) and a few other bloggers who were building with W. Almost everyone advised us to do a lot of homework and preparation prior to the selections.

We had already selected our brick Vino ( as mentioned in my previous posts) and also almost narrowed down on all external combinations with 2 rounds of visits to the PGH office (thanks to some great staff members).

We had also done multiple visits to Di Lorenzo to have a look at the range of tiles . Ours was the Prestige range of essentials for Wisdom Homes. Our phones were filled with pics of different tiles and yet until the last day we had not made up our mind on many of them.

You get to see different combinations of tiles for bathrooms ,flooring, externals and feature walls. However at the end of it you feel that the you are short of choices. You are restricted to your package range which is not bad but as is the case with human nature you want the best out of what is available.

The default floor tiles were 500×500 and had a 3mm grout. We had selected a glossy floor tile during our pre-selection visits. It was the only decent looking 600×600 that cost us an upgrade of $10 per tile and and some extra laying charges. When the selection process started I had something at the back of my mind thinking if the floor tiles were wet people could easily slip. Also high gloss was high maintenance. These points led us to choose  DLT82118 MARFIL LAPPATO(600X600). It was an off-white non glossy tile which met all our requirements.

Next thing was to choose between carpet and timber laminate. Instead of taking an upgrade on the carpet we decided to go the timber laminate path. (also keeping in  mind allergies that carpet bring in and the maintenance etc). We chose the Oak Leaf Laminate BLACKBUTT 1215x125x12 mm for all the upper floor areas except the stairs.

For all the external and wet areas we played safe with the existing standard range.

For the theatre room and staircase we chose the default carpet RedBrook Bekton Hall 4 Fruitwood

Keeping fingers crossed and thinking all of this should fall into place well. One thing in the wishlist is a software which shows you approx how your interiors would look with the selections done.
